The superstore chain also promote the fact that the deals were provide to Walmart+ members three hours in advance as a way to attract teenage members. And boost memberships for the subscription service.

 IKEA ‘Buy Back Friday’ – Promote a cause

and homewares. IKEA took a different tack in 2020 in its ‘Buy Back Friday’ campaign.

IKEA used Black Friday to ‘make a statement about sustainability. And promote their credentials in that space’ according to its submission for the Shorty Awards.

To do this the company invite customers from 20 countries. From Black Friday onwards, to return their unwant furniture to stores to get back up to 50% of its original value. The used furniture was then fixed up. Display in-store and sold to others at reduce prices.

Any unsold furniture would be donate to charity or recycle to avoid anything going to landfill.
